Despacito was released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in 2017, and quickly became the top-streamed track within 6 months. The single a mix of reggaeton, pop and rock did not just bring interest in reggaeton but also drew interest towards Latin music in general. The Billboard Top 100 included four mostly Spanish songs from 2016 and two songs in 2015. At the peak of Despacito's popularity in 2017, however, 19 predominantly Spanish songs made it to the top 100 In 2020, there were 41 such songs. After Justin Bieber's remix in two languages of Despacito (2017) popular musicians soon started collaborating with reggaeton artists, including Drake with Bad Bunny on MIA (2018) and Madonna together with Maluma for Medellin (2019). Certain reggaeton performers lamented the trend towards mainstream music in the year 2020. A new group, Rauw Alejandro wanted to maintain the development and growth of reggaeton. It was often associated with electronic dance and other styles.
